Product Description The Felice Brothers' self-titled American debut is a collection of songs originally recorded to sell to make ends meet on the streets of New York. The band made these "field recordings" wherever they could: an abandoned cafeteria, a broken down school bus, a chicken coop, a derailed train, and under a bridge. In these tales of murder, pathos, lust, and love, you'll find an honest new brand of American storytelling and song. "Scruffy and scratched Americana that recalls Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and early Springsteen" - Time Out London. "The Felice Brothers' Catskills folk is rough around the edges and intoxicating. Ryan Adams, eat your heart out" - Metroland / Best Of 2007. "Backwoods Americana is all the rage, but this band of brothers is a cut above the rest" - The Sun UK (4 stars).
Album Description This is the debut album for the Felice Brothers; Simone, Ian and James who are the three eldest boys from a family of seven, born carpenter's sons in the wilds of New York's Catskill Mountains. They started out singing for the family's Sunday BBQ sing-alongs to busking and impromptu subway performances to fill their bellies. Their recordings and live performances brings the backwoods to the cities and concert halls of America and Europe. Their distinct brand of songwriting and the lawless sound they've forged has earned them comparisons to Woodie Guthrie, a young Springsteen, and the Scorcese film, Gangs Of New York. In these tales of murder, pathos, lust, and love, you'll find an honest new brand of American storytelling and song. 15 tracks.

A Near Perfect Album November 15, 2008 Jordan Pope-Roush (Los Angeles, CA) Rarely is something "listen all the way through" capable like this CD by the Felice Brothers, especially nowadays. I've never written a review before and probably won't write another one until their next album- that's how moving and innovative and amazing this CD is. If you're being honest with yourself when you say "I LOVE music," then buy this immediately. And get the "Arizona" CD from their website, it's got a few more great songs and it's only $14 or something- much cheaper than here.
Nice to know people are still making music this good November 6, 2008 Jonah R. Gottlieb (Philadelphia, PA) It's incredibly refreshing to hear something so uniquely American, so rustic and pure, as if they didn't realize radios only play the same old crap for the most part. I strongly recommend buying this album: the lyrics are terrifically written stories, backed by a sound that can change from a folk ballad to a rollicking sing along in a heartbeat. These guys deserve a listen, you won't be disappointed.
This is the album you want to buy! Today! October 8, 2008 K. Lombardo (Massachusetts, USA) I knew from the first few notes of "Frankie's Gun" that I was going to like this band. The music is incredible, like nothing else out there now. So if you are viewing this review, I highly recommend that you buy this album! You will not regret it. Other favorite songs include: "Greatest Show on Earth", "Don't Wake the Scarecrow", "Love Me Tenderly" "Murder by Mistletoe" and of course "Whiskey in my Whiskey." (It was hard not to include more songs on the list of favorites, cause it is a great album.) So buy this album, share the music with your friends. This is a great band.
Ageless Americana that is also original and fresh. July 7, 2008 James Harrison (Melbourne, Australia) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
On initial listening my thoughts were that these guys sounded like a mixture of The Band and Wilco but that is unfair. Certainly there are references to these great bands and Dylan, Neil Young and Randy Newman but only references not copying. Everyone is influenced by something and you might as well use the best. This is original and fresh music in the Americana vain(for want of a better description). Thankfully the producer has allowed the band's playing to remain fresh and he has not overproduced this collection of great music that sounds live with strong accordian and keyboard playing that floats about the room as I listen to this wonderfull collage of sound. I hope these guys can keep up this standard, if they can they will be a great musical force.
