Good firm ice cream March 18, 2010 Judie E (Utah) We have had good results with freezing the ice cream in the Cuisinart. I have put the bowl in our freezer for a couple of days and chilled the mixture for 4 to 6 hours. I have wondered if those who had problems with it freezing had frost free freezers and caught the bowl during/after a defrost cycle. Even after 30 minutes the bowl is still very cold for me. Very pleased with appliance.
Say "Yes" to Ice Cream March 18, 2010 Charlie (Starkville, MS United States) I have used this machine for about a week now. Here are my observations:
1. The freezer bowl needs to be cold. Put it in the back of the freezer for best results, and make sure your freezer is about 0 degrees Farenheit. Wait until you cannot hear the liquid move around when you shake it.
2. The mix needs to be cold. If it is not at least 40 degrees when you put it in the churn, you need to stick it in the fridge until it gets there. And make sure your fridge is around 38 degrees.
3. The ice cream will be a little creamier than soft serve (what you get at the Chinese restaurant) by the time it is done churning, so if you want the consistency of store bought, plan on putting it in your (cold) freezer for several (4-5) hours).
4. It's not loud enough to complain about. Bow-up and make ice cream like a man.
Got it? Good. Now, no complaining because you did not get what you expected. This churn works well if you follow the instructions. I am very happy to own one, because even the quicker recipes make ice cream that will knock your socks off! Hooray for ice cream!
Great Ice cream maker March 13, 2010 J. C. Richard (Church Point, LA, US) We had seen a simular product on The Food Network and had become interested in owning one. We read other reviews on the Cuisinart and were a little worried that it would not work as it was advertized. We went ahead and ordered the machine and followed the inclosed instructions. It not only worked great, but the grandchildren were amazed to be able to watch it work. We used one of the inclosed recipes and the icecream was delicious. We are looking forward to trying some of the other variations in the booklet and also some of the old family recipes that we have used for years with the old "ice and salt" icecream makers. Over-all a great product!!
Disappointing March 10, 2010 A. Richards (New York) Here's the problem:
The ice cream sticks to the sides of the bowl mechanism. In order to make ice cream, you have to keep the bowl mechanism in the freezer for 12 hours or something, but then it is TOO cold, and whatever yummy blend you're planning to turn into ice cream freezes to the walls about a centimeter thick. The rest of the batter only semi-freezes.
It gets the job done, but you'll never fool your friends into thinking it's fancy ice cream. More like a glorified milkshake or smoothie.
That said, if you whip together your favorite ingredients, how disappointing can it be!

If you love ice cream, you'll LOVE this! The different recipes are so fun to make!!! :) It doesn't take long either.
