Product Description While it should be noted that vacuum packaging is not a substitute for canning, you can keep food fresh up to 5 times longer with this method. Use your FoodSaver vacuum sealer and this lid to keep the contents of mason jars fresh longer, saving you time and money.
Amazon.com Review For those who cook large quantities of food for storage, FoodSaver vacuum packaging systems offer excellent protection against food spoilage and freezer burn. This jar sealer attachment fits on pint- and quart-sized Mason jars and is for use with any FoodSaver machine that has an accessory port. The lid forms a tight seal on Mason jars while tubing (sold separately) inserts through the top and removes air from the jar with the help of a FoodSaver machine. The jar sealer works equally as well in packaging liquid foods, such as jams, sauces, or mustard, as it does for dry goods, such as brown sugar or spices. The sealer can even re-seal the same container multiple times (in case someone keeps dipping into the stored jars of raspberry jam). Vacuum packaging with this lid can keep food fresh three to five times longer than keeping it in a plastic food storage container in the refrigerator; however, it is a different process from canning and should not be confused with traditional canning methods. --Cristina Vaamonde

Store for long term with jar sealers March 4, 2010 Nancy Brown (Ohio) Ever go to bake cookies and find out your walnuts are rancid? Using the Food Saver jar sealer you can vacuum pack raisins, nuts, chocolate chips - all those things in your cupboard that have a limited shelf life and will fit into canning jars. I do a lot of dehydrating, and seal the dehydrated food in canning jars where it lasts for years. This is a real money saver.
Great Accessory December 29, 2009 JerseySurvivor (Vineland, NJ United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought my first vacuum sealer 8 years ago and wanted a new one with a bag cutter that would store the bags inside. I bought one, but it only came with a wide mouth jar sealer so I bought this regular mouth size. It's fantastic. I get the most use out of it when I need just a portion of an onion. After cleaning the onion, I put aside the part I'm going to use, then cut the rest of it up and seal it in a jar. Whenever I need a few pieces of onion, I simply open the jar, take out what I need, then reseal the jar. That saves me a lot of time preparing dinner on work days.
Jar Sealer December 23, 2009 Sunny (TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A friend of ours recommended using sealed Mason jars to store leftovers and other foods instead of plastic bags. Using this sealer and your FoodSaver machine, you can seal the Mason jar. The food stays fresher longer and we just wash the jars to be reused. This is a very worthwhile addition to your FoodSaver system.
It Works... Question Rubber Ring Longevity December 15, 2009 Ryan Tibbetts (Huntsville, AL USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Food Saver vacum attatchment for regular mouth mason jars works suprisingly well. I have been using it for a few weeks now and every jar was sealed on the first attempt. It reduces the pressure in the jar enough that I can't remove the lid without a knife or fork to pry on it. This is good and bad. Good in that it reduces the pressure considerably. Bad in that it takes a little work to get it off. I also question the longevity of the rubber seal on the inside. In my experience they deterierate or dry out if you don't put some lubricant on it every once in a while. However, for the price I am very pleased.
Pros:
Good seal
Works on first attempts
Cons:
Seal good enough I need to pry lid off
Longevity of rubber seal questionable
