Product Description
Information: Matcha is perhaps the most popular green tea on the market today. The first thing you will notice upon opening the packet is that Matcha is a finely powdered green tea and looks like an emerald colored flour. This characteristic truly sets it apart from other teas. When brewed, the powdered leaf is not strained or left in the pot, but is whisked into a frothy concoction and consumed. Because the leaves themselves are imbibed, brewed Matcha contains higher concentrations of vitamins and antioxidants than most other teas, green, herbal, or otherwise. According to researches done in Japan, brewed Matcha contains nearly 10 times the polyphenols and antioxidants of regular teas, 2 times the antioxidants of a glass of red wine, approximately 9 times the beta-carotene of spinach, and 4 times that of carrots. Brewing Ceremonial Matcha: 1). Prepare tea bowls by warming them with boiled water. 2). Prepare your Matcha whisk by soaking the tip in the boiled water in one of the bowls for about 10 seconds. 3). Pour the water out and dry the bowl with a paper towel. 4). Using your tea spoon, add 2 scoops of Matcha to each bowl. 5). Pour 1/3 of a cup of your hot water into each bowl. 6). In a slow "m' motion, submerge any loose bits of Matcha that may be floating on the surface of the tea. 7). Whisk the tea more briskly in a back and forth motion until the surface of the Matcha becomes frothy. 8). Consume immediately. Brewing Cold Matcha: 1g Matcha, 8 oz cold water, lemon, and sugar to taste. 1). Add 1g of Matcha to a little water and mix until you have a nice paste. 2). Add your paste to the rest of your glass of water and stir well. 3). Squeeze a lemon into to the mixture and add sugar to taste. 4). Add ice. Enjoy. Iced Matcha latte: 4g Matcha, 2 tbsp sugar, 3 tbsp hot water, 10 oz milk, ice. 1). Blend dry Matcha and sugar in a glass. 2). Pour in the hot water and whisk into a paste. 3). Pour cold milk over the Matcha mixture. 4). Add ice

5 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised   March 16, 2010
Todd Blum (New Orleans, LA)
This is my first experience with green tea, so if you're some kinda' hoity toity tea connoisseur, just disregard this review. I got it today @ lunch, so just to try it out, I threw some in my blender (Champ HP3, I use that thing for everything) with some cold filtered water and some stevia and mixed on high for a couple minutes. It got pretty frothy and cloudy, but it tasted pretty good (maybe a bit mild). I made enough for two glasses (about 24 oz) but I easily drank it all! No aftertaste either. You're supposed to use 160°F water, but I don't know why since mixing wasn't an issue. Of course, I used a good blender and consumed immediately, so maybe that had something to do with it. Hopefully it has the same health benefits if unheated since a quick-mix is most convenient for me. Shipping was fast. Will order more. Might try other suggested preparations too.

5 out of 5 stars Authentic Matcha Tea   March 14, 2010

My husband drinks Matcha Tea and especially likes the Green Tea Powder. The tea is excellent (if you like green tea) and the service quick and efficient. We have been ordering this product for quite a while.

5 out of 5 stars Has helped my health   March 13, 2010
K. Fitzgerald (Madison, WI)
I have suffered from constipation for so many years, and I am just so tired of taking chemicals and pills that my doctor prescribes. This matcha tea has really turned things around for me. I actually read about it in a book, and decided I should try it, as it was so popular in Japan. I searched all over the internet and in local stores, but the prices were so expensive. This Matcha tea has been really helpful for me, and I can feel it ridding my body of toxins. I wish I had a traditional bamboo whisk, but I just use a regular whisk, so I don't know if it gets the same frothy effect or not.

I have to say how pleased I am with this Tea company. I've been ordering for a couple of years, and they have always been so gracious by sending me delicious samples of loose tea to try. And it's wonderful when I open the little box, because it smells heavenly inside. Sigh. I can only imagine what it must smell like inside the shop itself! Everything I've purchased has been delicious, and I also enjoy the papers they send you on steeping, tea info, and recipes for the tea.

I will add that I think Matcha, at least initially, tastes like Nori (or Seaweed). So be prepared for this if you are not used to this taste, or if you do not like seaweed. I tried to get my parents to drink it because of the health benefits, but they could not tolerate the taste. I have grown used to it, but I do not drink it plain. I add a little Vanilla Soymilk plus two Sweetners, and it's just fine. In the summer, mix crush ice in with the blender, and it's so gourmet! But you'll be proud that you did it yourself and at such a great cost!

I'll absolutely order again. And I'd like to ask if Malden tea might consider getting the little Matcha tea whisks in stock some time. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars Great value   March 5, 2010

When I first looked to purchase Matcha powder to make green tea cupcakes, I was completely astounded by the price! Ordering here was simple, shipping was SUPER fast, the price was right, and the product is great. I understand what people have said about the bitterness, but I think that is simply because there is no sugar added to this Matcha, which is not true of many commercial brands. I have yet to make my cupcakes or try it as a straight latte, but I did try some on vanilla ice cream and it was great. Refreshing and healthy!

5 out of 5 stars INTENSE!!!   March 1, 2010
Ace (East Coast)
I love matcha -- as a tea, or mixed with sugar and then stirred into vanilla ice cream, or added to soy milk or regular milk and then sweetend and eaten with dry cereal -- and of course I like its health benefits.

As a loose tea, and a powder at that, I carefully open it over the sink -- otherwise matcha dust will find its way all over my kitchen. Making it into a tea is easy -- I don't have a whisk - I just use a fork to stir it into the hot water and then add sugar or honey (or nothing, if I want it bitter and not sweet).

Although too much of this does not give you the jitters as does too much coffee -- it definitely snaps your eyes open with intensity and jolts your brain awake.

(PS-- try making Matcha gelatin dessert. Yum!)
