Product Description Sleek & Trim Kindle DX is as thin as most magazines. Just over a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle DX fits perfectly in your hands. International Coverage: Enjoy 3G wireless coverage at home or abroad in over 100 countries. Beautiful Large Display Kindle DX's large display is ideal for a broad range of reading material, including graphic-rich books, PDFs, newspapers, magazines, and blogs. Kindle DX's display is two and a half times the size of the Kindle display. Whether you're reading the latest bestseller or a financial report, text and images are amazingly sharp on the 9.7" screen. Auto-Rotating Screen By simply turning the device, you can immediately see full-width landscape views of maps, graphs, tables and Web pages. Built-In PDF Reader Unload the loose documents from your briefcase or backpack, and put them all on Kindle DX. From neighborhood newsletters to financial statements to case studies and product manuals--you can take them all with you on Kindle DX. Native PDF support allows you to carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go. With Amazon's Whispernet service, you can send your documents directly to your Kindle DX and read them anytime, anywhere. 5-Way Controller Kindle DX has an easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Simple to Use, No Computer Required Kindle DX is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. Long Battery Life - Read for Days Without Recharging With Kindle DX's long battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly.

| Customer Reviews:
I don't go anywhere without it March 19, 2010 Paulo Bandeira Exactly what I was looking for. After researching several products I opted for Kindle and I'm sure I made the right choice. Now I can take all my books with me everywhere I go.
Hardware good downloads not March 19, 2010 David Lloyd (Halifax, West Yorlshire) Firstly the good bit - The kindle is very good although you'll need a US main adaptor to charge it from the mains (I thought it was a legal requirement for electrical items to be fitted with a UK 3 pin plug here - But I guess Amazon get round this by directing you to the US site to buy it - Sneeky!)
Now the bad bits - I was on holiday in Egypt recently so decided to download a UK newspaper. What a load of rubbish! One picture on page one and thats your lot! The rest is one huge wad of text bearing no resemblance to the actual newspaper and this was the case for all the UK papers. I also wanted to download probably one of the most popular series of books for sale at the moment - One of the Harry Potter books but amazingly they're not available! The kindle is also supposed to let you browse certain sites (well they'relisted on the menu) These include Amazon, CNN and the BBC but I've had no success as yet.
So all in all a good product mared by lousy support - My opinion - Buy an Ipad when it's released - wish I'd waited!
DX - I love it! March 19, 2010 Jeanie Haupt (San Luis Obispo, CA) Unlike many other reviewers, this is my very first Kindle. My neighbor has a Kindle 2 and has been hassling me for a year to purchase one. My only concern about the Kindle 2 was that I really wanted to be able to download computer reference books & think the screen is much too small for that. My hesitation and why it took me so long to buy a DX is because of the price. $500 is pretty pricey for me, although a new competitor's product is being offered for around the same price. I first downloaded Kindle for my pc and after reading on my laptop, decided to get the real thing so that it was easier on my eyes & I could enjoy the book in bed.
PROS - 1) Keyboard for easy searching. I know others have complained about the numbers being integrated with the top row of letters, but this wasn't a big deal to me. 2) Bookmarks, highlights, & clipping - I LOVE this feature! I subscribe to Technology Review & Newsweek magazines and love the fact that I can clip articles for export to pc or highlight the sections that I want to revisit quickly in the future. This is also helpful with my pc books when I want to revisit a particular segment & can find it quickly. 3) Online ordering - I think it is great that I can sit just about anywhere and search for my next read. And once when I couldn't get signal in a bad area, I was able to login with my pc to a wireless network & then transfer the book over. Nice! 4) Hidden games - yep, I bet you didn't know but the DX & Kindle 2 both have a couple of hidden games like minesweep. Not major graphics games but sometimes helps to take the boredom off when you are sitting at the airport or a waiting room for extended periods and want something more interactive than just reading. 5) FREE books! Yes, I have downloaded quite a few free books from Amazon and enjoyed the read. Sure, I purchased quite a few, also, but it's nice to try a new author for cheap or free once in a while. Never know what you are going to find. 5) Magazine subscriptions - I already mentioned in a previous point, but I love that I get to wake up on Sunday morning & read Newsweek while having my coffee. And if I'm too busy to read, I don't feel guilty that I wasted a bunch of paper!! 6) Text to speech - I know the voice can be a little robotic, but sometimes it is nice even at the gym when I'm pedaling the bike hard & can't focus on the words as easily. And when I've had a little insomnia, my little DX has read me to sleep. 7) Screen rotation - This is a GREAT feature! I've read that reviews about pdf files being difficult to read and I concur that sometimes that is the case in portrait mode. However, I can turn landscape and it's like reading on my laptop. Yet, I don't get the eye strain that I do my pc. 8) PDF viewing - I subscribe to a financial newsletter that I can download in pdf & I really like that I can take this stuff with me. 9) Portability & layout - I like that I can flip the screen any of 4 directions so the page turning buttons can be on the bottom, top, or either side. In landscape, I like putting them on the bottom, so that I can just keep my thumb on the bottom of the kindle & press Next Page easily. This little guy is bigger than K2, but still very portable and not too heavy. I take it just about everywhere with me. To me, this little guy is just so comfortable and fun to use. 10) Screen - No eye strain, no finger prints. It's like reading paper & can touch the screen without my oily finger prints being left behind. And it is perfectly visible in the bright sunlight! 11) Long battery life - I use this thing all of the time & charge it about once a week. I admit, I normally keep the wireless turned off.
CONS - I only really have 2 cons. 1) Some of the books have highlighted passages that appear as images & can sometimes be difficult to read. Wish they could find a way to add a gray background as the highlight without turning it into an image. 2) Lack of ability to file books/documents into folders like a computer. That would be very handy, especially when you get a lot of books & documents. Then I could have categories of fiction, work, fitness, or whatever, which would make it easier to go through.
Overall, like I said, I absolutely LOVE my Kindle DX!! This is one purchase I can say without a doubt has been completely worth it. I carry it around with me almost everywhere. Anyone I've ever met who owns one loves it. If you're comparing this to another device, I strongly recommend getting the Kindle. I suppose it depends on your needs, though. For me, I already have a pc and phone so I didn't want another device with the same features. This is much easier on my eyes at night & so easy to read during the day. Even with the new technologies, I'd still choose this one.
**I wanted to mention that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of price & the poorer quality of some highlighted passages in books. Other than those 2 points, I'd give it a definite 5!
Kindle exceeds my expectations! March 19, 2010 Gary Waskey (Ripley WV) After a month of use, I am very pleased with my purchase. Easy to read, easy to use, easy to purchase books and newspapers, great tool for me!
