It was not messy for me like some people might have said. You don't have to use a lot. It was used when the basket was full so that if you did use more than necessary it was collected on the cuttings and leaving the basket free from any oils. To me it did seem to be cutting like it was knew when I first received it back in Nov.9, 2008 and I have shredded over 7 full baskets of paper. Today was the first time I used the oil. I know I should have used this oil earlier and often since the manual suggest one should regularly use after bin is full or if capacity decreases, motor sounds different or sherdder stops running.

Shredder works like a charm!
Make sure you get the lubricant cutter oil to keep the shredder well oiled. I am oiling the shredder after each bag filled.
I was contemplating spending less for a shredder, but I think spending a little more for a hefty well built shredder will pan out as a good long term investment.
Make sure you get a brand new sealed shredder. When I received my first one it looked like a returned box since the packaging was previously opened. I didn't want to take any chances and I was extremely disappointed that Amazon sent me a used item but the return process was a little work but easy.
Amazon please don't send out previously opened merchandise! This isn't the first time it has happened to me, but beyond that they have the best customer service.

The bottle is much larger and heavier than I thought, The weight makes it a bit cumbersome. I bought two when one would have been enough. You can refill with vegetable cooking oil when empty. Wish the bottle was smaller. Maybe I can find a smaller plastic bottle with a fine tip and just refill it from this. You get your money worth for sure.
