Only the AppleCare Protection Plan provides you with direct telephone support from Apple technical experts and the assurance that repairs will be handled by Apple-authorized technicians using genuine Apple parts. Key Features Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Experience improved energy efficiency and improved multitasking with the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which also offers an ultra-fast 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) The hafnium-infused circuitry--which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors--conserves even more energy. With a substantial 3 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle. Graphics Processor The Mac mini features the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor for up to five times better graphics performance than its predecessor, and its dual display support can drive two Apple or third-party displays with Mini DisplayPort or DVI connections. The NVIDIA GeForce 9400M shares 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM with main memory. You'll notice the difference when you work with high-resolution photos and high-definition video, where graphics-intensive features in iPhoto and iMovie are smoother. And 3D game play--from Spore to Call of Duty--is faster and more responsive. Wireless Connectivity The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it's also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague. Environmentally Friendly Design Because Apple designs both hardware and software, we can reduce our environmental footprint in ways others can't. For starters, a highly efficient power supply reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your Mac. Unlike a lot of PCs, a Mac uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power--even between keystrokes. A Mac also doesn't contain a lot of toxic materials. All Mac displays are mercury and arsenic free, and the internal components are free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and brominated flame retardants (BFRs). Efficient Power Supply Mac mini includes a highly efficient power supply that reduces the amount of power wasted when bringing electricity from the wall to your computer. Lower power consumption reduces energy bills and lessens the environmental impact of greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. Advanced Power Management Unlike a lot of Windows-based PC systems, Mac mini uses energy-efficient hardware components that work hand in hand with the operating system to conserve power. Mac OS X spins down hard drives and activates sleep mode. And it balances tasks across both central processors and graphics processors. Mac OS X never misses a power-saving opportunity, no matter how small. It even regulates the processor between keystrokes, reducing power between the letters you type. That's just one of many ways Apple manages small amounts of power that add up to big savings. Mac mini is a great example of Apple's energy-efficient design philosophy. It uses less than 14 watts of power when idle--that's something no other desktop computer can do.2 ENERGY STAR Qualification Mac mini meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR qualification. ENERGY STAR 5.0 sets significantly higher efficiency limits for power supplies and aggressive limits for the computer's typical annual power consumption.

Only 1 video connection. Otherwise fantastic. March 18, 2010 But I'm feeling much better now... (Chicago, IL United States) My Macbook Pro did not care much for the cup of coffee I gave it, so I had to replace it. I looked at getting another MacBook, but really did not like the idea of paying a premium for a portable machine that rarely left my desk. Similarly, an Imac was pretty high priced due to the built in monitor, and a Mac Pro is just plain pretty high priced. I was contemplating building another Windows machine, but I remembered what a pain I've had over the years maintaining them while the past 2 years with my MacBook were a joy. Unfortunately, I also thought about the fact that I had to replace my Mac computer with another Mac computer or lose all of my programs and data. (At least without going through hoops.) Fry a Sony, and you can buy any number of Windows computers, fry a Mac and you need a Mac.
I decided on this Mac Mini as the least expensive means of replacing my lost processing power/space. The recovery of my data was incredibly simple, the easiest I've done in 30 years, and most of those were not successful. I'm definitely now sticking with with a Mac for life. The time saved in getting going again, less than 12 hours from ordering a replacement and getting it Saturday Overnight delivery, and only taking 30 minutes to do the recovery, in contrast to the days and days I used to spend trying to buy identical HDs for finicky backup programs, and changing all of the device drivers, not to mention activating Windows again through a drone that doesn't know I bought a new machine, was well worth any price difference with this Apple product, even if it had any competition.
The only problem I have is that the 2 video ports, the mini-DVI and the Display Port, cannot be used at the same time. Nowhere is this mentioned in the sales descriptions. I even purchased the ridiculously priced Apple Display port to VGA adapter to no avail. So, I had to buy a USB to DVI converter, and the quality and speed of the display is just not there. It is maddening trying to view a Photoshop picture on one monitor and all of the tool windows on another low picture quality monitor. If I had known in advance of this limitation I would have taken the time to go to an Apple store to see if it worked OK, and might have ended up with something else. I haven't had a computer that supported only 1 monitor in over a decade.
But, this is a great little machine, and if you really want something to be portable, even small enough to throw in a safe, this thing is about $1,000 less than a comparably priced MacBook Pro with all the advantages of OSX.
new mac mini 2.53 ver. MC239LL/A March 13, 2010 Bruno (Howell, NJ) I have been a Mac user since 1986. Mac Plus, Mac IIci, Quadra 610, iMac(bondi blue ), beige G3 as well as many other assorted models including the towers. I have found this machine to be everything I had hoped and more. It is fast, flexible, & works great with my 21.5 inch Samsung 2233SW 21.5-Inch Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor. Just plugged it in and it was recognized immediately. USB external hard drive- no problem. Wireless logitec mouse and keyboard - no problem. I brought over all my files and software and their have been no issues. I just made sure that all drivers and applications are up to date. I can open as many applications as needed and experience no slow downs. Handles video, music and graphics quickly and their is practically no wait time for web pages to be loaded. I highly recommend this unit.
This is the Mac I love the most. March 10, 2010 IBARAHIM HALEEM (Maldives) The new mac mini is just another benchmark for the small desktop makers. Apple's Mac mini is the most silent, solid and small desktop computer I've ever owned. Ever since I switched to Mac at the very start of 2008, I've had a hope to own a Mac mini. I've used many Apple products including the iPhone, iPod touches, MacBook and Macbook pro, an Apple TV and a Time Capsule plus an Airport Express, The Magic Mouse and Apple Wireless and Wired Keyboard as well. So I'm clearly a Mac user with a wide range of products usage overtime. But I've to say that this is the most valuable and desirable Apple Product I've ever own. I use it with an Acer 24-inch display and the result is just gorgeous. I love my Mac mini. A penny spend on it is just worth it.
everything a pc has and more but 1/4 of size March 9, 2010 Katherine Cobos (laredo,tx usa) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first mac and I just have to say wow. I edit a lot of photos and home videos and the preinstalled software makes it a breeze without having to install any third party softwares. The stability is impecable as well as the speed. My husband is a pc system builder and loves it as well.
Mac Mini. My Experence comeing from a windows background March 6, 2010 J. Roland Others have given quite in-depth reviews of the mac mini. I'm going to just share with you, some of the reasons that I went to this.
First, I've been a PC user for years. I was sick of how SLOW windows was, programs taking for ever to launch, virus etc.
First, for those who have a worries about switching. Mac is EASY to switch to.
There are some great programs out there, that can copy over your IE Bookmarks, your documents, your ITunes.
Pretty much EVERYTHING on your PC, can be easily brought over to your mac.
I was, frankly shocked at how easy it was to get my info off the PC to a Mac.
(moving from PC to PC, was NEVER that easy)
BTW- If you want to move from Mac to Mac, it's JUST as easy.
Apple has done a GREAT job of migration of data, Microsoft could learn a lot from them.
For those who are worried about still using some PC only programs.
Get Fusions! You can easily load your XP or other OS, run it in tandem with your Mac OS and copy/paste between them.
Unreal how great this works.
Finally lets talk about size and power.
This thing is small, it uses very little power and it's quiet!
It's graphics are quite powerful. Photo shop, Dream weaver ran nice and quick.
Plenty of USB ports and built in Wi-Fi.
How much more can you ask for?
