Great book, bad images December 12, 2008 DayOldDuck (California, USA) I've used Maya for approximately seven years, so getting into Blender has been quite a challenge. I've tried various online tutorials, but nothing has really worked for me...until The Essential Blender. The tutorials are well-paced and clear, and so I've actually started my Maya rehabilitation. For the biggest negative, I must really agree with the other reviewers; the images are very very small in many places and therefore not very useful. It would be nice to see them in color for the places where it makes sense, although for modeling it's pretty much gray anyway, so no need for it there...but make the images BIGGER in the next edition! Please! That's why I give it four stars instead of five. Otherwise, I think it's well-written and easy to follow. Perhaps it's just me, but I prefer having a book in front of me rather than switching between a tutorial and Blender on-screen. There are some "errors," but since I am using Blender 2.8 I assumed they were just version differences and the book is out-of-date. I've been able to figure out what's wrong very quickly each time, so I didn't take off any stars for that.
A great beginer book October 31, 2008 Steven Davis (baldwin, NY, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I started this book not knowing a thing about blender having just downloaded the application. Today i have animations of atoms with orbiting electrons, gingerbread men waling around the screen and some very nice still art work. A great book that walks you through the different parts and explains why and not just how. The book comes with the blender application and many samples to work with. It is a great book.
Excellent Read- Recommended October 3, 2008 N. Harrison (Victoria, Australia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my brother who has read many of the Blender guides, This one he said was the best. Great for someone new to blender, but also for someone who is familar with Blender to get a few new ideas.
Get this book. September 29, 2008 J Guidry (Lafayette, LA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For several years, I've been trying to learn 3D animation, but the books I read were hard to follow. So I gave up. When I found Blender's software, I decided to give it one more try. In reading reviews for books, I usually give more weight to the 1 and 2 star ratings, so I almost passed on this book. That would have been a huge mistake. This book is extremely well written, and I'm well on my way to finally learning this stuff. The biggest problem some reviewers had was the poor graphics. Do not let that stop you from getting this book. I wouldn't say they were great, but you can see what you need to see with some close-up viewing.
