The Best Hope for Peace in Afghanistan March 20, 2010 swreader (Tucson, AZ, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I didn't think that Three Cups of Tea could be bettered--both in writing and in content. But Stones into Schools is even more incredible. Starting with the work in Pakistan after the terrible earthquake, in this book Greg (and his dirty dozen) have more than doubled the number of schools built by the people with the aid of the Central Asia Institute. And schools for women have been built right in the heart of the Taliban's former stronghold. There are scenes that will break your heart (the poem by the former mujahideen about his longing for peace) and scenes that will make you swell with pride (the fact that the US military has learned from Greg's first book about a better way to help Afghanistan as demonstrated by Admiral Mullen's opening one of the schools). If you haven't read it--rush right out and get it, and then send a contribution.
STONES INTO SCHOOLS March 20, 2010 S. Murray (Atlanta, GA, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I see the name Greg Mortenson, my interest is immediately aroused. His tireless efforts to promote peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan through bringing the possibility of education and thus hope to these people is an example that if followed, could make a huge difference in our entire world. He opens his reader's eyes to the value of respecting the worth of every human being.
I highly recommend reading all of his books if you want to have a true understanding of the marvellous culture and potential of these people.
Uplifting March 19, 2010 Marilyn C. Ely 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This continuing story of Greg Mortonsen's efforts to bring education to the youth of Afghanastan for both boys ans, especially girls is most uplifting and sheds a different light on the people of that beleaguered country. The news paints a picture of evil for the afghanistan people where is is just a minority of men who are extremists. The ordinary people want the best for their children and know that education is the best way to do this. Greg Mortonson and his group are providing that for the children. He takes NO money from governments. Read his books!
A Must Read March 19, 2010 Afrikasdiva (Chicago) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved this book and I am going to recommend it to all my friends. This is an amazing story of what a single human being can do to empower a full community. Educating girls is very important and God bless all the people that make these miracles happen. Can't wait for the next book.
Does Not Disappoint March 19, 2010 Amazon Bob (CA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read Three Cups of Tea previously. This book is a great continuation of the story as Greg and his unlikely crew of misfits do incredible work in the toughest conditions. I didn't want to the book to end. Here's looking forward to the next book!
