The 10 Questions Retirees Must Ask Their Financial Adviser

If you are a Baby Boomer AND in or near retirement your Financial Advisor should be advising you on how to protect your Nest Egg in Retirement. If they are not actively working with you to control your Nest Egg you could be in serious trouble. Did your financial planner:

Explain to you the differences between accumulation and distribution of your nest egg?

Help you with a plan to provide you with your income needs for the next five years?

Tell you to take money from your Funds in good times and put them in a safe place so you could use that money to live off during the bad times?

Show you how your nest egg could last 10, 20 or 30 years depending on how well you managed it?

Show how fees, taxes,inflation and taking a pension affect your nest egg in the long term?

Talk to you about using a stop loss strategy to protect your capital?

Suggest ways to reduce fees and taxes?

Organize to separate your equity investments for your fixed interest investments?

Meet with you last year to plan how to protect your nest egg from the sub prime crisis?

If the answers are no, then why are you still with them? Your financial planner has failed you because they should have been preparing you and your nest egg for the distribution phase which is totally different to the accumulation phase.

Yout financial planner should be able to show you where his investemenets are too.

If your financial adviser is not pro-active and does not take the initiative to call you and help you create a retirement strategy that protects your nest egg capital in retirement, then you may need to find a new financial planner.
