Prescription Discount Cards

By: Stephen C. Dayton

Are you struggling to pay your house hold bills and then finding yourself short at the end of the month trying to cover your health care bills or to buy the prescription drugs your doctor prescribed? If so you're not alone. The cost of health care and brand name prescription drugs has left many short in the pocket book. Fortunately there are now prescription discount cards available for those who qualify that will help cut some of your prescription drug costs significantly.

These Prescription Discount Cards can be a God send for those who can't afford health insurance. The cards allow the user to purchase prescription medications at a significant discount allowing the user to purchase prescriptions they may not otherwise have been able to afford. This is all do to a well orchestrated relationship between these third party companies and the pharmacies.

The best part about these discount cards is that they are often times free. I know, I know, if its free how great can it be? Well fear not free doesn't have to mean its worthless. These companies know that their target market is generally lower income and can't or won't join a costly membership so they take that into account.

Not to fear as these companies have done a great service to the down trodden by scoring some huge prescription discounts. In fact it's not unheard of to find some of the prescription meds reduced by as much as 75%. Easy there cowgirl that's the more exceptional discounts, but even the lesser discounted drug prices can be significant.

Let's say your prescription costs $100 for argument's sake. Instead of paying the full $100 you would pay $25 instead. All this just for using your card.

Of course, they aren't all presented at such great discounts, but you'd be surprised. When you're pinching pennies any little (or big) amount helps.

The first thing to realize is that these are not health insurance programs. Many people mistakenly assume they are because having a health card is equated with having health insurance. They are vastly different.

A health insurance plan will protect you in case of health emergency as well as everyday health problems. A discount card will only give you some money off of your purchase. They generally have nothing to do with going to the emergency room or going to the doctor. If it is possible for you to get the health insurance plan that is what you should do.

You will also need to check and make sure that you are eligible for the discount. Some cards are only provided to subgroups of the population like senior citizens. Others are provided to everyone.

Here are a few prescription drug cards you may want to check out:

* Together RX Card

* GlaxoSmithKline Orange Card

* LillyAnswers Card

* Novartis Care Card

* LillyAnswers Card

I've only provided you with a few examples above, but a search online could pull up even more so don't get discouraged if you find you don't meet the minimum requirements for the discount cards I've given you here. Trying to qualify for more than one card can also come in handy to increase your chances of scoring the best price for whatever prescription medications you may need.

As mentioned before is might be a good idea to see if you can qualify for more than one prescription drug card. The reason being that you may have multiple prescriptions you need filled each month and card A may not offer a discount for that particular drug while that same card may work great for another prescription you need filled. A second prescription drug card may be just what the doctor ordered for prescription B not not for prescription A. Having multiple cards to draw from gives you more options.

If none of these prescription discount cards is available in your country or you simply don't qualify under their guidelines then there are still some options you may find that work better for you. Healthcritiques.com is a site where you'll find other prescription discount coupon options for 4rx or discount online pharmacies like xlpharmacy.

When evaluating all your options including all the prescription discount cards available do make sure to read the fine print so you know what part of any bill you may be responsible for. If you don't take a lot of various prescription medications then it's certainly possible to find a single card that will cover all your needs. If not, mix and match if need be or even try sites like HealthCritiques.com that are another option for those who don't qualify under the strict guidelines of some of these prescription discount card regulations.
