Poker Attracts Celebrities Like A Magnet

By: Hillary Bluff

Poker has come a long way in the public eye. Poker is not a back room game anymore. Celebrities have started to get into the game. Let's take a look at a few of the celebrity names that are involved in poker.

Our first celebrity is a surprising one, Jennifer Tilly. The catch here is that her boyfriend is none other than Phil Laak, a top poker player. He has taught Jennifer well. She has cashed in quite a few tournaments, and has won a WSOP bracelet. In 2005 she shocked the poker world winning the ladies only event.

Sully Erna, the lead singer of Godsmack has been noticeably present in poker events recently. Although he doesn't consider himself a professional by any means, he plays as much as the pros. He has cashed in the WSOP main event both of the last two years.

James Woods has been showing up at poker tournaments for years. He is a regular at the Hollywood home games. He also is involved in online poker, owning a poker room.

Ben Affleck plays poker in cash games primarily. In 2005 however he decided to play in the 10,000 buy in California State Poker Championships. He surprised the field by taking the title.

Not quite the big time movie star as the rest Chad Brown is another actor who plays poker. Well, maybe he is a poker pro who did some acting. With over $2 million in career earnings, he is clearly the best player of the celebrities. He is a regular at the big tournaments these days.

With career earnings of over 2 million dollars, he has had many good runs in big events. He almost captured a WSOP bracelet with a second place finish in event 54 of the 2007 WSOP. His strong record is only tainted by not having a big win.

Gabe Kaplan, of Welcome Back Kotter fame, is the iconic celebrity poker player. He has been involved in poker for years. Back in the seventies, when televised poker lived in obscurity, Gabe was often the host, or the poker expert, for the commentary.

He has been playing at the WSOP for years, playing his first in 1978. He has made six WSOP final tables. His first final table finish coming in 1986, and his latest in 2007.

Gabe still does commentary for televised poker. He analyzes hands for the audiences watching the show High Stakes Poker. He has the poker knowledge, and quick wit, to entertain and educate you with his observations.

I'm sure we've left some celebrities off this list that should be here. As poker has grown in recent years, many new celebrities are getting into the action. The WSOP has more celebrities than are courtside at the Lakers games. They all want to take a shot at the big one.

When you hit the flop in holdem, and think you have the best hand, make your opponents pay to see more cards. If you think your hand is the best make them pay. Checking the flop will often lead to giving your opposition a free look at the next card. This leads to big losses when your opponent makes a hand. Poker deposit bonus
