Picking High Income Affiliate Programs: Don't Guess

By: Daniel Z. Kane

Not many website owners have a product which will sell well enough to produce the income they desire. And, virtually all of the franchise style business opportunities for sale are even less likely to lead to success.

That's why the best chance most website owners have to generate significant income is through affiliate programs. But, only if those programs are chosen with great care. Here is what you need to do to pick winners.

1. Use a tracking or analytics program to learn as much as you can about the folks who visit your site. Their ages, genders, geographic locations, and the search terms they use to find your site are all important to know.

2. Once you know who your visitors are, you'll know what products and services are of interest to them.

3. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. If your visitors are women between the age of 25-45, choose several affiliate programs which offer products or services which will appeal to them.

4. Once you've selected the affiliate products or services which are the best fit for your website, choose the affiliate marketing companies and individual affiliate marketing opportunities with the same care. Longevity is generally a big plus.

5. Most successful online entrepreneurs favor agencies which offer a wide range of affiliate opportunities.

6. Get to know your affiliate managers. Their job is to make you successful and they'll gladly share information about what you can do to help yourself.

7. Test, test, test. Try different ad copy, different banners, different advertising locations on your website, etc. Experiment until you know what works best. It's worth the effort.

8. Carefully consider affiliate programs which pay you for generating "leads". It is frequently easier to get your website visitors to request information about products and services than to actually purchase them online.

You'll find an almost endless number of affiliate programs out there. Don't jump at the first few. Take some time to find the programs which are the best fit for your website and it's visitors. If you do it properly, your chances of financial success are high.
