Illinois Arrest Records Search

By: Jed Elaine

Anyone is entitled to access Illinois Criminal Records if they so wish as they are public information. When it comes to actually obtaining copies of these records it is pretty easy to accomplish and often you are able to obtain them for free. However, there are some law enforcement agencies and companies who will carry out a search for you of these records but will charge a fee for doing so.

The Illinois State Police hold criminal history information on particular individuals and if you would like to see sight of this you will need to pay a fee of $16.00 in order to do so. Whereas the Circuit Court in Jackson County will allow you access to their database and this will cost you $12.95 for each search that you carry out.

In general most of the law enforcement agencies are the ones who are required to maintain the databases that these records are held on. They will then share this information with the courts and in some cases with certain individuals who have requested a person?s public arrest records.

Generally the information that is held in these databases will be updated on either a daily, monthly or quarterly basis. So just how good the records are for a particular county within the State of Illinois will depend on how well the database is updated and maintained.

When it comes to Illinois criminal records the information that has been collected has shown that theirs is still above the national rates. This is quite strange as the state has actually seen a decrease in the number of arrests that have been made. Records show that between 1990 and 2002 there was a 28% decrease in the number of arrests made in the State of Illinois. In 1990 it was shown that 1,237 people were arrested per 100,000 of the state's population. Yet by 2002 this figure had decreased to 894 which is quite a substantial drop during the 12 year period.

Yet even though the State has seen a reduction in the number of arrests being made for it overall and recorded between 1990 and 2002 some of its counties have seen increases. There are 102 counties which make up the State of Illinois and of these 43 showed a sizeable increase in their arrest rate records. Whereas 17 showed a notable reduction and the other 42 counties that make up the State of Illinois showed no difference whatsoever.

However, when you look more closely at the Criminal Records Illinois for the period between 1995 and 2002 of the original 43 that had increases only 8 now were left showing increases. Plus a further closer inspection and you will find that 7 of these 8 are in fact rural counties.
