There are five different types of Pacific salmon, namely king/ chinook, pink/humback, red/sockeye, silver/coho and chum. If you're fishing for a trophy salmon then there are two types that you will have your heart set on- king salmon and silver salmon. From their name alone, King salmon or Chinooks can tip the scale at up to seventy pounds while Silver Salmon or Coho are comparatively smaller in size but can still fetch up to twenty pounds.

Since salmon journey to their spawning places at just about the same time every year, it can be all about timing. If you come at the right time then you increase your chances of getting a big catch. Late June to mid September are the best months to be making your way to British Columbia to fish for these two varieties.

To make sure that all aquatic life remains protected British Columbia has its own set or fishing regulations for you to follow. On top of the list for fishing regulations in British Columbia is knowing the fishing limit. Each type of fish has a different limit, depending on the fishing location.

Licenses are just about as important as your rod when it comes to salmon fishing. This is especially true if you are looking to catch trophy salmon. If you're worried about where to get these you'll be relieved to know that there seven hundred vendors for such. You can buy one from any sporting store, lodge, resort and even chosen department stores.

Fishing licenses are essential when it comes to salmon fishing, especially if you're out to catch trophy fish. There are over 700 vendors for fishing licenses in British Columbia. Among these vendors are sporting goods stores, lodges, resorts etc...

You will surely want to let friends and family taste your catch. If you aren't transporting your salmon whole, check for packaging services. Most lodges or resorts will be more than happy to help you with this.
