Auto Insurance -- Can't I Do Without It?

4. If you own substantial assets, attorneys of victims of accidents where you're at fault can go for them. Depending on how much you're worth, this could be a devastating blow to your investments of life savings.

Looking at the above reasons, being without auto insurance certainly isn't a viable alternative. Here are better options...

1. To ensure you are NOT a law-breaker, get at least the state's minimum auto insurance policy requirements. This should be good enough if yours is an old car.

Don't take this step if yours is a new car. You need to ensure your policy will replace your new car if it's stolen or totaled. However, you can reduce the liability of your auto insurance policy to the minimum required by law in the state.

But to ensure you don't have issues with liability claims, get an umbrella policy. Per premium dollar spent, you'll get far more extensive liability coverage with this policy.

2. Finally, take some time out to do thorough comparison shopping. This way you'll get auto insurance coverage for a lot less...

All you'll have to do is fill a simple questionnaire at each site. For this, you'll get five or more quotes from different A rated insurers. Do this over and over again with different insurers until you find a deal that gives you the right coverage at an affordable rate.
