Aoc Set To Go Gold For Game Developer

Described as the “goriest MMO ever to be released”, Funcom’s online adaptation of Robert E. Howard’s coveted series is finally here - Age of Conan.

At the beginning of 2008, Funcom had the pleasure of announcing their pre-launch population of close to half a million – close to the largest in MMORPG history. The company had mixed success with its initial MMO Anarchy Online, with a strong turnout upon launch but an inability to monopolize with future expansions. Shadowlands, the game’s second expansion, received critical acclaim at all levels and rejuvenated the game to new found levels, but could not compete with the success of World of Warcraft.

Current MMORPGs are often criticized for being not matching gameplay to the themes present. Doing away with the blood and gore for more mainstream appeal is not something Funcom are willing to do with AoC.

In Hyboria the line between good and evil is difficult to find, some gamers may become confused by the nature of the game, even being forced to ask certain moral questions unlike in any game before it. This is a huge step from existing titles where themes are restricted to allow for more conservative gamers and appease those who may criticize.

Taking on opponents in Age of Conan is as fun as it sounds with a revolutionary combat system that brings a new dimension of realism to gameplay. This uncovers an entirely fresh level of interactiveness with combat,with each weapon providing the player with something new.

AoC could be one of the first contemporary MMORPG titles to go multi-platform, with release planned for at least one major gaming platform.It may not be long until gamers on both PC and games console can do battle in the same online realm.
