Affiliate Marketing For Newbies

By: Jeffrey Kenneth Gross

If you are just starting to look into making money on-line, you may discover that affiliate marketing is a terrific income earning avenue to explore.

Affiliate marketing, simply stated, is the process of promoting products and/or services that others have created, and generating commissions form any sales stemming from your promotion efforts. For many Web-based companies, affiliate marketers account for a lion's share of their total sales, so they are eager to enlist new and motivated people to join their "sales force."

This isn't like "selling" in the traditional off-line sense, where you sometimes have to make a lot of phone calls or knock on a lot of doors to reach customers. Affiliate marketing can be done entirely on-line. You may never have to directly interact with a customer at all.

So how do you sell products to people without talking to them, and perhaps not even e-mailing them? There are several ways, but first it helps to explain a little bit how affiliate marketing works.

You generally become a company's affiliate by completing a short application. Once you sign on and are accepted as an affiliate, you are given an affiliate URL that is unique to you.

You then use your affiliate link to send customers to the company's Web site. When those customers purchase something via your link, you earn your commission.

So how do you use an affiliate link to locate and send potential customers to the site where the product or service is being sold? A few of the tried-and-true ways to promote affiliate links include:

1.You can create a Web site of your own on a topic related to the product or services you are selling. For example, if the product is an ebook on how to win at poker, you could create a Web site that tells all about the game of poker, and include your affiliate link on every page of your site.

2.They blog about things that would attract potential buyers to the products they are promoting as affiliates. The body of every blog entry carries their affiliate links to related products and services that their readers might be interested in.

3.You can place classified ads with your link in on-line newsletters or on other people's sites that are related to what you are promoting.

4.Writing short articles on subjects closely tied to your products. There are a number of article databases on the Web where you can post these articles for free. When people read them and click on your affiliate link, you earn commissions from any sales that result.

Finding affiliate arrangements can be quite simple. Just search on the Web under the term "affiliate program" or "be an affiliate." You will quickly discover that the number and variety of money-making affiliate opportunities is enormous.
