A Guide To Chainsaw Carving

Believe it or not the earliest records of chainsaw carving history goes back to the 1950's when it all began. It wasn't until the early 60's that the chainsaw dealerships started lining up and the state fairs and forestry expos for this art though, and it has been building a popularity and following ever since.

It is important to have the right tools no mater what you are doing. Chainsaw carving is no different. You must find a well balanced chainsaw for your physical build. To light of a chainsaw will not allow you to carve properly and to if the saw is to heavy well the results of that are obvious. So choosing the right saw is vital to quality chainsaw carving.

For those tighter areas on the carving you will need to use knives or shorter blades that will allow you to get into those areas for the detailed sculpting work.

In order to reach the high levels of skill that are required to be a real chainsaw carver, there will be a considerable amount of instruction and practice required. You will need to work at it for a long time and when you first start off remember not to get frustrated because chances are that you are not going to have that good of luck. It is a very difficult art form, once you get used to it of course you will be better but at the beginning you may find it hard and need to keep practicing.

A really good chainsaw carving instructor can help you find the right tools to get you started, as well as provide you with a lot of the tips and tricks that are learned by experience and trial and error. If you listen to them you could save yourself some time and frustration.

If you find an instructor be sure to listen to them carefully. They will take you through all of the steps in creating your first chainsaw carving, Including how to properly hold on to your saw for the proper cuts. It is all important so take your lessons seriously.

There are some people who actually make their living with chainsaw carving, and you can too if you are interested but you will definitely have to get some good and serious practice in and get really skilled at it.
