3 Ways To Expand Your Income In Public Speaking

I like public speaking for lots of reasons, but perhaps the single most reason why I love my motivational speaking career is that I will always benefit from multiple streams of income. At any one speaking engagement, I'll have pre-sold material ready to be delivered, I'll charge a speaking fee that justifies my time and I'll also have materials on hand for back of the room sales. In my motivational speaking career, I've had to learn how to become a master marketer as I learned how to make money with motivational speaking. Now here's what I want you to do. I don't want you to think like a speaker any more. I want you to start thinking like a marketer!

Being a motivational speaking marketer means you need to start looking at your speaking engagements differently. You need to see these speaking engagements as occasions for you to open your store. You can sell other things besides yourself and your time. You can write a book or get the book written for you about a subject matter that will sell in your area of expertise. How easy would it be if you just recorded audio or video files during speaking engagements you had and then packaged them up for sale? Before you can focus on the three simple ways to expand your public speaking income you have to get all your products prepared.

The first step to expanding your income lies with your speaking fee. Never be afraid to ask for what you might look at as big money, this is one of the countless tips on public speaking I'll give you. People ask me how to get bookings for motivational speaking, I know what they are actually asking me is how can they make money with public speaking. The reason most people aren't making any money in public speaking is they are either working for too low a fee or even worse for free! There is only one thing standing in your way of professional speaking success and that is to get over the hurdle of thinking you don't deserve making $10,000 versus $5,000 per event.

Pre-selling materials is the second step to income expansion. You can sell your expertise by using books, CDs, DVDs, and training systems. If you don't believe it's easy then just look out how I was able to pre-sell my book to every person attending a conference. All because I just spoke to the event coordinator about her interest in getting a copy of one of my books to every person attending her event without it costing her anything. Of course she was interested and by just adding an extra $10 to the registration fee everyone was able to receive my book. And by having her send the difference after the end of the conference I was able to make money not only from my speaking fee but also getting an extra $10 from each person attending.

Back of the room sales is the third step to expanding your income. It is necessary that you think like a motivational marketer not a motivational speaker. Boost your sales by making your audience crave more information than what you're sharing with them. You can do this by giving them nuggets from your book and or CD/DVD sets. Your sales will be super charged by making irresistible offers like: promoting your training system as "power packs" or discount pricing for today only.

Work these extra fields of income and you will see your motivational speaking career take off!
