24 To Continue For At Least Two More Days

By: Groshan Fabiola

Good news for 24 fans! The Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning action-thriller series has been renewed for at least two more seasons. Of course, this means that lead character Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, will stick around until 2009 since he has already agreed to a whopping $40 million contract for a three-year deal.

Surprisingly, 24 has been picked up in spite of the decline in the ratings and in viewership. 24 has launched its distinct action-packed plot with a sturdy and powerful impact in 2001, showcasing violent torture scenes and controversial themes. While most of its distinct characteristics are still present in the most recent season six, much of show generally lost it luster. A significant drop in ratings compared to its preceding seasons can back up fans’ discontent over its chronic dilemma, which has prompted writer David Fury and executive producer Howard Gordon to take the necessary actions.

Previously, Fury and Gordon have admitted to the series’ loose story lines.

According to the execs, it has been most challenging for them to come up with a great season but has unfortunately sunken in a recurring problem.

But with 24 continuing until 2009 at least, fans can be assured of some changes that will hopefully bring back shine to the critically acclaimed series. Both Fury and Gordon are currently working on ideas on how to reinvent the show to give its loyal fan base the 24 it deserves. The changes will definitely bring forth new elements in program while maintaining its real-time format. Many even speculate that season seven will feature a different cast and perhaps even a change in set.

According to a T.V. Guide interview with co-executive producer Manny Coto, "Jack starts next season in a very different place than any season so far.

Let's put it this way: I wouldn't be surprised if there's no CTU next year… There will not be a ticking clock on a nuclear device. We're hewing much closer to real life: tighter, more personal, more difficult for Jack. There may even be a plot thread that doesn't take place on U.S. soil. In a sense, it's a reboot — in location and personnel.
