24: Season 7 To See Female President?

By: Groshan Fabiola

In six days that Jack Bauer has been foiling complex terrorist plots and fighting off unscrupulous factions out to destroy Los Angeles and the rest of the United States, there have been four constants all throughout: Kiefer Sutherland as Bauer in all six seasons, Glenn Moreshower as Secret Service stalwart Aaron Pierce, also in all six seasons, the city of Angels as location and the nation’s figurehead, the President, in the middle of it all. One other thing that has remained consistent in all the completed seasons so far, the president has always been male.

In the recent aftermath of the just-concluded sixth day in Jack Bauer time, there have been reports that changes are imminent in the coming season, following less than stellar ratings compared to previous years. Among the changes buzzing around the grapevine is the transfer from the sunny, amber Los Angeles setting that has been the series’ home for six years, to an altogether new scene. TVGuide’s Michael Ausiello recently got the inside scoop on possible location choices, including New York, Washington D.C. and London, England. With the seventh day storyline slated to take place outside Los Angeles, reports seem to indicate that the Counter Terrorist Unit or CTU Los Angeles will not be in the picture but that its resident tech whiz, Chloe O’Brian, will have a place in next season’s events.

Apart from the new location, the rumor mill is also abuzz with news that next season’s president will be a woman. While this may be exciting information to fans who’ve witnessed the many faces of a male leader, from the firm, upright and strong David Palmer to the sniveling, weasel of an excuse for a man, Charles Logan, the inclusion of any presidential figure in the story indicates that, at least that mainstay from past years, will carry on to season seven. At this point, there is still no word on who the female leader will be. Day six frontrunners seem to be CTU’s Karen Hayes and presidential sister, Sandra Palmer, although neither one of them really make sensible candidates.
