'partridge' Mom Joining 'days'

As Days of our Lives bids goodbye to Julie Pinson, who plays Billie Reed, the show opens its doors for a new member. Academy Award winning actress Shirley Jones is the newest addition to the Days of our Lives family.

Jones, who is famous for her character as the widowed single mother Shirley Partridge on The Partridge Family, will be part of the daily drama show but only for a limited time. She will appear on Days for the whole February Sweeps.

Jones will be playing aunt to Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). She will take on the role of Colleen Brady, who, as the soap made it appear on its previous episode, is supposed to be dead. Through flashback scenes, all that is revealed to the audience about Colleen is that she entertained a forbidden affair with Santo DiMera (James Scott), and that the love story ended tragically. For some strange reason, Colleen died young but the reason for her death still remains unclear.

Jones’ role on Days of our Lives is another challenging one for the veteran actress as she is required to speak with an Irish accent. In preparation for this necessity, she is currently training under prominent dialect coach Robert Easton.

Jones background in the entertainment industry ranges from the stage to the onscreen. She received a Best Actress in a Supporting role Oscar award for playing Lulu Bains in the film Elmer Gantry (1960). In 2006 Emmy Awards, she was nominated Outstanding Supporting Actress in a miniseries for her role as Aunt Batty in Hidden Places. On stage, she performed for numerous productions including Oklahoma!, Maggie Flynn, The Sound of Music and The King & I.

The network did not give a clue on when will Jones first airdate be. Likewise, the network also refused to give clues as to when will Pinson be last seen on the show.
